Gurrelieder - Arnold Schönberg
The 2007-2008 season opens with a grandiose chapter for orchestra and chorus: Schoenberg’s Gurrelieder. An early work of powerful lyricism conducted by Mark Wigglesworth, leading La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra and chorus for the first time.

Friedrich Cerha & 20th-century Austrian composers
Two young singers who are among the most brilliant of their generation - Barbara Hannigan & Georg Nigl - perform in a recital associating the lieder of 20th-century Austrian composers with the world premiere of a song cycle entitled Auf der Suche nach meinem Gesicht by Austrian composer Friedrich Cerha.

Apocrifu - Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui
Three dancers and seven singers combine contemporary dance and Corsican polyphony. For the first time at La Monnaie, Belgian choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui presents a premiere marked with his openness to the diversity of scenic art forms, with Damien Jalet, hip hop dancer, Yasujuki Shuto, legendary Japanese dancer, and the vocal group A Filetta.

Roman Tragedies - William Shakespeare
A spectacular and original journey through three great tragedies by William Shakespeare, created by Ivo van Hove. This major theatrical project - the first part of the season’s long Shakespearean voyage - brings together fifteen talented Dutch actors.

Phaedra - Hans Werner Henze
World premiere of the new opera by German composer Hans Werner Henze. The work, which offers a contemporary view of the mythical story of Phaedra, is dedicated to mezzo soprano Magdalena Kozena. This project marks Peter Mussbach’s return to La Monnaie, in a collaborative work with light artist Olafur Eliasson.
